In an article written by Michael Grotticelli with Broadcast Engineering magazine, it is predicted that
“broadcasters won’t care where their media is being viewed within two years as long as it’s being viewed”.
Some media executives have agreed that 75% of television shows will be viewed on the web within two years. It’s interesting what people think a television is nowadays. Some kids think an iPad or iPhone is television. More and more television programs are becoming media programs to be viewed on various portable devices.

Broadcast experts at a symposium in Las Vegas listed three major priorities for local televisions stations and content creators.
- Produce content that people will watch on demand.
- Increase content for mobile and tablets.
- Invest more in social media so local content can be discovered and shared.
They also talked about social media and how it’s grown and is now a portal for media.
- Average users spend 36 minutes a month on Facebook and 50 % of the users return daily.
- Twitter now reaches 13 % of North Americans and is used as a real time news gathering tool.
In addition, Producers need to think about how their project will be seen to ensure it looks great regardless of where and how it is viewed. Some questions you might need to answer are:
- Are my titles an appropriate size for an HD screen AND a smart phone?
- Should I allow for title safe, center cut or letter boxing?
- Will shooting interlaced effect the quality of my deliverables?
At Studio Post, we invest ourselves in helping answer these questions. In addition to keeping up with the latest HD video options we’re working on hot button topics like IOS App development, Social Media Marketing and Website Content Management Systems (CMS).
Multiplex or Mobile Phone, broadcast or podcast, “All of the above!” is rapidly becoming the answer to “How will an audience view my video?”.
